BB KING
(Born Septemer 16, 1925)
Most people will agree that B.B. King was the most
influential guitarist of our time, and has also been music’s most
successful concert artist. With irresistible electric guitar, it’s
no wonder BB King is called “the king of blues”.
BB King grew up in Mississippi, and learned to play music in church. Later,
he became a DJ and taught himself about blues and jazz from the records
that he spun to air. He also learned guitar that way, just plugging in
and playing along. He got the nickname “Blues Boy,” which
was later shortened to BB.
Although in the 1950’s he was well known in the blues circle, it
wasn’t until the ‘60s that he became popular with mainstream
America. He played hundreds of concerts, with hundreds of different musicians,
for hundreds and hundreds of people of all different races, ages, and
tastes of music. From the early 1950’s to now, BB king has been
recording and performing like a fool. Everyone loves BB King.
