Kathryn FlackI'm a visiting assistant professor of linguistics in the school of cognitive science at Hampshire College. My research investigates the roles of formal and functional factors in explaining phonological phenomena. That is, I'm interested in how phonetics and phonology interact to shape grammars. I address these issues through formal phonological analysis, typological surveys, phonetic experimentation, and computational modelling. I am one of many linguists to receive a PhD from UMass. I am also one of the few linguist alums from Carleton College (in Northfield, Minnesota), and also one of fewer linguist alums of Bexley High School (in Bexley, Ohio). Kate Flack
