Midterm essay

Due: 30 October, in class

Length: approximately 5 (printed, double-spaced) pages

Task: Write on a topic of your choice, which will reveal something distinctive about the history and production of books.

Some suggestions:

Illustration

Papermaking
Common press vs. iron handpress
Printing-shop operations
Evolution in the manufacture of paper
