odds and ends: things that don't necessarily fit the other categories
a doctor holds up a urine specimen while a jester cavorts nearby. why? who knows?

It is reassuring to know that, despite terrorism and war, life on the planet returns to its
usual (and not so usual) ways.

Heavy delay after fat man gets stuck

An overweight train passenger caused delays of over an hour on a busy rail network after becoming stuck underneath a table. The man - travelling on the Scarborough to Manchester Airport service - is thought to have dozed off and slipped under his table. He awoke at Manchester Airport, realised he was stuck and then had to ask for help from train staff. Several Arriva Trains Northern workers tried to free the stricken passenger but eventually called in the fire service, which took around 45 minutes to remove the table and free the man.

Cuba honors Beatle John Lennon with park and life-size statue seated on bench: "President Fidel Castro and Cuban singer-composer Silvio Rodríguez unveiled the singular statue on December 8, 2000. On that occasion, Castro affirmed: 'I'm a dreamer, too, like Lennon.'" — Cuban Review

"Guide dogs take driving lessons"
by P. Enis Smorch
14th September 2001
"There was much surprise today when the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) announced plans to train guide dogs to drive. 'Guide dogs have been doing a huge variety of household chores for years,' remarked RNIB spokesperson Arthur Cumming, "so why not let them drive? Our research shows that only 40% of the canine brain is used to perform tasks such as answering the telephone, wiping their owner's arse and scrubbing the bath, and we firmly believe that the remaining 60% is plenty of room to hold the knowledge required to drive a vehicle." An Ideal Wedding (people who have their priorities straight)

An 11-year friendship began smoldering last spring and caught fire on July 8 when Debi Marie Spyros and Jorge Luis Iglesias exchanged wedding vows at Gates of Heaven Chapel [the first synagogue in the city, now a public monument—JW] in James Madison Park. The couple had been friends since 1990, but it took only one 'real date' for them to fall completely in love.
....
Debi and Jorge both are Catholic, but chose Gates of Heaven chapel so their dog could attend the ceremony.
