April 18

This week we will look at post-colonial cultures in France through the lens of a contemporary film that addresses the multiethnic and multiracial landscape of urban Paris.

Please complete the following supplemental readings:

  • Chris Barke, review of la haine
  • Keith Reader, "After the Riot"
  • OPTIONAL READING!: Mehdi Charef's Tea in the Harem (We will not discuss the novel in class but I'll be glad to talk to any of you individually about the work.)
